The fave five
I’m relatively new to the world of blogging and I find it so fascinating to be let into the workings of people’s everyday lives. So I’ve been out on the Internet looking. At first I was looking for female breast cancer patient-survivors, but I found so many fascinating stories everywhere I turned. I want you all here, you know that, but for today I’d like to consider hearing some other voices out there. I think this is a great forum to showcase some fantastic writers and some amazing souls. Enjoy this week’s “fave five”.
A Woman of Many Parts
“… I was on my deathbed and looked back to this time in my life, would I regret what I am doing, or rather not doing now? I had so many ideas before I fell into this monotonous existence. I was going to get fit, I was going to read all the books that I haven’t read yet, I was going to write my book…and yet, all I do is lurch from one half baked idea to another, not enough energy to complete anything and too much energy to stay in bed and rest…”
The Assertive Cancer Patient
“There is nothing like being stripped of your own clothing (and identity) and dressed in a backless cotton hospital gown to make the most self-confident among us feel like children. Suddenly, we find ourselves embarrassingly dependent on our doctors and their opinions of us.”
Two Hands
“I have learned a couple of things. One is that this process is never over. Cancer gets in and even if you get it out, the stink of it remains. It reminds of me of someone smoking in your car. You never quite get that smell out. Sure sometimes you don’t notice it, but then one day, your senses pick it up again and it brings back the memory of someone smoking in your car.”
One Breast Less
“Still, I find myself smiling again. It creeps up on me. Sat on the aircoach yesterday and a few memories just turned up. They insisted I relax my jaw, drop my shoulders, and smile. Heading to a meeting and thinking if it doesn’t work out, who gives a fuck.”
Boobie-Thon
“This yearly event features bloggers showing their (covered and uncovered) breasts in order to raise money for charity during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
