Making A Public Declaration

by Robin Dunn Bryant on May 22nd, 2007

It’s not because of Gloria’s post about cancer and diet (though it could be). It’s just time for me to get back on the right track with what I eat and what kind of exercise I get. Because it’ll be in print – and I’ll be unable to delete it completely from the world – I’d like to use this space to announce my re-commitment to exercising and eating healthy.

Before my diagnosis, I’d lost about 30 pounds, was walking about 20,000 steps a day, rode my bike to the metro, and lifted weights about three times a week. My husband and I were eating “clean” and were planning on having a baby as soon as we relocated…

A year later and I can barely walk around the block. The good thing is that I know everyone starts somewhere. I’m starting with cardio four times a week and will take a beginning Tai Chi class in June. Everything I read these days mentions the association with obesity and breast cancer. I don’t want to go down this road again. I won’t obsess about my weight here, I promise. I will check in with you once a week, though, to let you know how it’s going.

When i got my cancer diagnose I just finished a several months diet… Surely diet can help, but statistics are statistics and personal experience is another thing :-)
So, I will restart my diet soon, but I have no hurry…
By the way Tai Chi is really wonderfull, not only for your body but for your mind also. I can practice it for a couple hours without a single thought about my disease, and this is really nice :-)
