Dairy Calcium May Reduce Risk of Breast Cancer

by Gloria Gamat on July 21st, 2007

The risk of breast cancer is reduced by at least 45 % with increased intake of dietary calcium. This benefit is increased further in pre-menopausal women.

How’s that for additional reason to drink milk and consume more dairy products?

According to lead author Emmanuelle Kesse-Guyot from INSERM U557 (University of Paris):

“Our data support the hypothesis that dairy products, through calcium content or a correlated component, might have a negative association with the risk of breast cancer, particularly among pre-menopausal women.”

Dairy products rich in calcium include milk, cheese, yoghurt and other food stuff derived from milk.

Findings have been reported in the Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism.
