On Spirituality and Cancer

by Gloria Gamat on August 9th, 2007

One controversial factor in cancer healing that goes beyond the medicine, exercise, lifestyle and nutrition, even science as a whole - is the patient’s spirituality or faith.

Of course, we all want to know if there really is faith-healing connection that exists.

Eventhough many already have testified that their faith healed them, many are still doubtful.

The Spirituality and Cancer Study by Arizona State University wants to find out just that by examining how beliefs affect one’s health.

Arizona State University psychology researcher Jessica Tartaro is seeking 150 men and women, age 18 or older, who have completed treatment for any type of cancer within the past year.

Tartaro has begun recruiting at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea, but anyone who is qualified can participate.

She also is interested in hearing from cancer survivors who don’t rely on spirituality and may have other sources of strength.

Wow, I guess both believer and sceptic would like to know how this study will turn out.

Whatever the results will be; this would still be an issue for debate.

Faith is faith. It is believing even without evidence right? Otherwise, it wouldn’t be faith anymore. Don’t you think?

If faith isn’t as powerful as others believe it to be, why then that when everything else fails, faith is always the last thing that a patient holds on to?
