EDY’S Raised Over $120,000 At Scoop Day For The Fight Against Childhood Cancer
The makers of EDY’s products - Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. - is extending its huge thanks o citizens throughout the Northeast that stopped in to their local Stop & Shop or Giant Food store on May 3 to support Scoop Day and the fight against childhood cancer.

More than $120,000 was raised at Stop & Shop and Giant stores throughout New England, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland on the one day where shoppers donated $1 for a scoop of SLOW CHURNED light ice cream or $3 for a scoop of SLOW CHURNED light ice cream and a compilation CD of former American Idol performers.
The total represents an increase of more than $20,000 over what was raised in last year’s promotion. The company will also donate an additional $25,000 from sales of its SLOW CHURNED Take The Cake Light Ice Cream, bringing the total to over $145,000.
According to Michael DaPonte, director of sales strategy of Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc.:
“We are thrilled at the success of Scoop Day, in raising over twenty percent more than last year, and the amazing support we have received from caring people throughout the Northeast and from Stop & Shop and Giant Food.
We thank everyone who participated in helping us to bring attention to the critical issue of childhood cancer and providing support to the organizations that help fight it.”

Ice Cream Day runs in conjunction with Stop & Shop and Giant’s annual Triple Winner game, a fundraiser where customers who donate to fight pediatric cancer receive special scratch tickets that could be worth up to $10,000 in cash. The two chains hope to raise $5.25 million for research and care.
The company is donating all proceeds from New England area Stop & Shop stores to The Jimmy Fund, New York and New Jersey stores to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Giant stores to The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Medicine and The Children’s Cancer Foundation.
Thanks to Hilary for the shout out. We look forward to the next Scoop Day. ;-)
